YPW CONTRIBUTORS INDEX: Ms. Tara Perry

Ms. Tara Perry is a Los Angeles native, civil rights activist and Community Council elected official in South Central. Tara received her bachelor’s degree in Sociology from St. John’s University and as an experienced paralegal, Tara centers her fight around combating police brutality, protecting Black worker’s rights, and supporting legislative bills to actualize Black economic equity in California.

Tara’s experience informs her fight for Black specific politics, which led to the creation of her political action organization, Black Pact. Tara knows first hand some of the most pressing issues that plague the black community.  As an activist since 12 years old, she learned to speak truth to power at a young age and has continued to do so ever since.

Frustrated with establishment Democrats, Tara launched her first major campaign to run for Los Angeles City Council in the 8th District in November 2019.

As a neighborhood council elected official Tara continues the work toward economic equity in the Black community, desires to stop gentrification and help to obtain reparations for Black American Descendants of Chattel Slavery.
